Here's what we did today:
Math-We continued with stations and focused on subtracting across zeros. I am confident that all students can correctly add and subtract large numbers; however, some have been having problems with keeping their numbers straight and that causes confusion. I have stressed re-writing problems on a separate sheet of paper so that they have more room to work.
Word Study-We are spending the next couple days on Grammar, with a focus on nouns and adjectives. Today we looked at a paragraph and pointed out all the nouns and adjectives in the paragraph.
Reading-We continued to ask questions about our reading and also to take a second look at our questions and see if any were answered as we continued in the book. I am impressed with the students' ability to ask relevant and meaningful questions about text!
Writing-Today we focused on getting rid of boring words like "good" and "said" and replacing them with more specific words. We also learned that one way to make your writing sound less repetitive is to change the words around.
Social Studies-We played a Jeopardy review game to prepare for tomorrow's test.
Homework:
Math- WS 3.4-odds and MR--Chapter 3 test will be Tuesday
Word Study-Using page 1 of the grammar workbook, finish the list of nouns and adjectives we began in class. Remember not to write in the book! For an extra challenge, write a paragraph that uses some interesting nouns and adjectives. This part is optional, but as a class we will select one of the paragraphs to post on the blog tomorrow. If you'd like, write the paragraph in your Writer's Notebook and it can be one of your entries for the week!
Social Studies-Study for the Chapter 1 test! The yellow packet is also due tomorrow.
Tomorrow is NFL day so wear an NFL shirt or jersey if you have one.
Don't forget to read and write and post about your reading so we can all hear what you're thinking!
Have a great (rainy) night!
