September 27th

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed the beginning of fall!

Here's what we did today:
Math-We started Chapter 5 which is on time.  We reviewed how to read a digital and an analog clock and also learned three different ways to tell time.  Here is a good website for practice: http://enlvm.usu.edu/ma/nav/toc.jsp?sid=nlvm&cid=2_4&cf=activity.  If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there are three ways to practice telling time.

Word Study-Today we reviewed for tomorrow's quiz on nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.  The kids brought home their workbook for some extra practice, but they know not to write in it.  The quiz will be a paragraph and they will have to identify the four parts of speech that we've covered.  A great way to practice is to search for those parts of speech in their independent reading books at home!

Reading-We continued with inferencing and this time used poetry.  As I read a poem, the students had to visualize the character that was being described.  Then we had a conversation where they had to explain what they visualized (inferred) about the character using words from the poem.  They are getting great at identifying parts of the text that help them to make an inference!

Writing-We are almost finished publishing our first writing pieces!  Tomorrow will be the last day of in class time, they will have to work.  On Wednesday we will have a "publishing buffet" and the kids will have the chance to read and share their opinions on other students' writings.

Tonight's Homework:
Reading-Read 100 minutes and make sure to post to the blog at least once this week.  In your post, please include the title and author of your book as well as an inference you made.  Make sure to include all 3 parts of an inference.

Math-WS 5.1, all problems

Word Study-Study for grammar quiz.

Science-worksheet due Wednesday

**Picture Day is Wednesday!!  Please send the picture order form to school by Wednesday if you'd like to order.

Have a happy Monday night!
