Sorry for the late post tonight!
Here's what we were working on today:
Math-We learned how to write expressions from word problems and that you use a variable to stand for a number that you don't know. This is a new concept for the kids, but I was pleased with their dedication to learning it and their willingness to ask questions!
Reading-In pairs, the students were given a non-fiction book and needed to write down what they knew about the topic and questions they had about the topic. They were then given time to explore the book, find answers to their questions and write down new questions they had.
Word Study-Groups 1 and 2 met to do their sort and Groups 3 and 4 prepared their words for their sort. The contract for groups 1 and 2 is due next Wednesday, the 22nd, and their test is the 21st.
Writing-We began editing the writing pieces by focusing on spelling. We also learned some editing marks to use so that we all use the same "editing language". We will continue with this tomorrow.
Ask your child about our read-aloud, The Magic Half. It is one of the Mark Twain books this year and got really interesting today!
Homework:
Math-page 66, #2-22, evens only. We started this on a sheet of looseleaf in class today.
Reading-I will meet with Archer's Quest, Little House, and Mixed Up Files tomorrow. Please remind to post about your thoughts on your book.
Science-Please bring a small ziploc bag of soil to class tomorrow.
Writing-Don't forget about your Writer's Notebook!!
Tomorrow is Lindbergh Spirit Day. Wear your green and gold!
I would like to make a post about the book I'm reading right now, The Help. It is a great book about the struggles in Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. I can't put it down and am so grateful for the people who worked so hard for equality.
ReplyDeleteParents, feel free to post about what you're reading to encourage some of the kids to share their thinking!
I am reading Archers Quest and it is a really good book. My favorite part about it is that it is a Mark Twain nominee!
