September 21st

Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned about input/output tables.  There were taught in 3rd grade, but we are working on writing equations to show the rule, using variables.  Here is an example:  If "r" is the input number and "s" is the output number and the rule is -4, then the equation would be r-4=s. 

Word Study-Groups 1 and 2 took their test today and Groups 3 and 4 did a buddy check to prepare. 

Reading-We continued to make inferences using Hurricane.  We learned that an inference is made using two sources of information: information from the book and previous knowledge about the topic.  For example, we were able to infer that a storm was coming in the book because we know that it can be windy during storms and in the book it said "Let's get him inside before the wind blows him away".

Writing-We continued editing our partner's writing and will begin publishing tomorrow!

***I gave progress reports to the students today to show their grades at the halfway point of first quarter.  Please look these over with your child, sign the botttom portion and send to school.   You may keep the top half.  If you have any questions let me know.  The Social Studies grade is the final grade for first quarter since the kids will be going to Science during the remainder of the quarter.

Word Study-Groups 3-4--Study for test, Groups 1-2--Contract due tomorrow
