September 22nd

Here's what we did today:
Math- We learned about balancing equations and that whatever you do to one side of an equation, you must also do to the other side.

Word Study-Groups 3 and 4 took their test today while Groups 1 and 2 finished up their contracts.  The contract for groups 3 and 4 is due tomorrow.

Reading-We continued with inferencing today and are beginning to make inferences in our independent books.

Writing-We began publishing our first writing pieces today!  The students were very excited to have a lot of choice in this step of the process.  Some of them have chosen to include a dedication, an "about the author" section, a summary, illustrations and more!  We will be having a publishing party next week.

Counseling-Today began a series of presentations and activities on bullying.  With visitors from BJC, the kids did an activity which helped to expose some of the most common forms of bullying.  They were also given a coin to give to someone they have seen being kind.

Tonight's Homework:
Math-WS 4.5, all problems,  Chapter 4 test is Friday

Reading-Tomorrow How to Steal a Dog  and Class Clown will be meeting.

Don't forget to work towards your reading goal and write in your Writer's Notebook!

** I will be out for a literacy and technology training all day tomorrow so there will be a sub.  I will be back on Friday!  There will be no blog post tomorrow, but please feel free to email me with any questions you have.

  5. Dear Mrs.Davis,
I have just finshed reading Frindle by Andrew Clements. It is about a boy named Nick who has a fifth garde grammer teacher who's name is Mrs.Granger. Nick came up with a idea. His idea was to use the word Frindle insted of the word pen. This made Mrs.Granger mad. So if she heard anyone use the word Frindle they would have to stay after school and write the sentence I am writing this punishment with a pen. one hundred times. At the end of the book Nick is in collage and recives a letter and a dictionary wicth had the word Frindle in it.The letter was from Mrs.Ganger. It the same one she had told Nich she would give him when the battle with pen and Frindle was over with. I highly recommend this book.

  6. Dear Mrs. Davis:

I was very sad when I found out that you were not here today. Our sub was very nice, but you are nicer. You are my most favorite teacher of all time!

At home I'm reading "David and The Phoenix". It was my dad's favorite book when he was a 9 year old boy.

    Wyatt

  7. Thanks for posting everyone! I love to hear about what you're reading and I hope that other kids will get some good information about your books so that they have some ideas for new books to read!

Wyatt, thanks for the nice comments too! I missed everyone today, but I learned a lot at my meetings that will help us in the classroom :)
