Here's what we did on the first Friday of September:
Math-I returned the Chapter 2 Math test today. Most students did fantastic! We also began doing some mental math with addition and subtraction. We learned a couple ways to think about this, but the main thing thing is that students are beginning to try some strategies in their head to quickly solve addition and subtraction problems.
Reading-The students chose books for their first reading group. We will start groups on Tuesday. I will meet with two groups each day. Because of the shortened week, each group will meet once next week.
Word Study-Groups 1 and 2 met to do a buddy check and Groups 3 and 4 worked independently on their writing contracts.
Writing-I met with each student to take a look at their writer's notebooks. I am very impressed with most of their entries. Here are some things to remember: They need 3 entries per week and should spend a minimum of 10 minutes on each entry. Each entry should be dated and should have an H by it for Home.
Social Studies-Using large, laminated maps of MO, we drew the 5 regions and located MO's major rivers.
This weekend's homework:
Math-WS 3.1-odd numbers, all of the Mixed Review--Correct Math test
Reading-Prepare for Reading group. This means reading the assigned chapter and writing down 3 questions that you thought of while reading.
Word Study-Groups 1 and 2 have a test on Tuesday. Groups 3 and 4 have a test on Wednesday.
Social Studies-Complete questions 1-4 on page 79. Please remember to use complete sentences!
Have a great 3 day weekend!
Don't forget to post about what you're reading! We'll look at the posts in class on Tuesday.
I am reading Emilys Runaway Imagination by Beverly Cleary. It is about a girl named Emily who lives in Pitchfork Oregon and wants to bring a library to her small town.

Great Marissa! I love Beverly Cleary, but I have never read that book of hers. You'll have to keep me updated on what's happening. Hope you had a nice three day weekend! See you tomorrow!
