September 29th

Here's what we did today:
Math-We used our Active Expressions to learn how to figure out elapsed time on a calendar.  This will help us to know when events start and end over weeks, months or years.  We also discussed the number of days and/or weeks in a week, year, decade and century.

Word Study-We are taking a break from our word study groups and doing a unit as a class.  The word list is made up of 13 commonly misspelled words such as two, too, and to.  Each student also chose 3 words that they would like to learn how to spell and added them to their list.

Reading-We continued making inferences in poetry and discussed the poem "Second Son".

Writing-We had our "Publishing Buffet" today!  The students set up their desks with their story, summary, a pencil, and a sheet of paper for students to leave compliments.  Then they got to go around the room and read each other's writings and leave compliments.  It was a great time and everyone really enjoyed sharing their writing and receiving compliments!

Homework:
Math-WS 5.4, all problems

Read-Post to the blog tonight if you haven't already since we are not here on Friday.

Science-Finish WS

The students looked great for Picture Day today!!

  2. I just started reading Matilda it is by Ronald Dahl. I made an inference on how Matilda is very smart. People are good at different things like Matilda is smart. By the time she was three,Matilda had taught herself to read by studying newspapers and magazines that lay around the house.

  3. Hi Mrs.Davis.I am reading Replay by Sharon Creech.Ive only read one page and so far there is a boy named Leo and his family calls him sardine.I enfer that they call him sardine because they think he is a wimp and in the book it said Leo got squashed in a corner and cried and when they asked him why he was crying he said im just a little sardine squashed in a tin.

  4. Dear Mrs.Davis
I am reading Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary. I infer it is almost Chirstmas because Beezus is making a Chistmas present for her aunt. If it was almost Chirstmas I probably start making a present too.

  7. hi everybody,
i'm reading The Camp Confidential series. its about kids who go to camp and don't nessacarily like it. I'm on book seven. I infered Natile was mad at Tori for flirting with her boyfriend. Proof: "Tell me I'm not checking out your boyfriend," she said sheepishly. Natilie shrugged. "Sort of. I mean, it's okay, he is cute," she added trying to be gracious. I mean assuming he's my still my guy and all, she thought.
