Thursday, January 6th

Here's what we were busy with today:
Math-We did some problems where we had to think of an answer that would make sense, try it out and if it didn't work, try another possibility!  We call this "Predict and Test".  Tonight's problems are a little difficult, but the strategy to use is just to try different possibilities until you find the one that works.  Chapter 13 Math test will be Tuesday.

Word Study-There is a new day in our word study rotation.  Following the sort from the previous day, students will go on a search around the classroom to find words that follow their pattern and add them to the sort.  Groups 1 and 2 completed this activity today and Groups 3 and 4 met with me to do their sort.

Reading-We took a look on an article about school uniforms and discussed the text structure. Students then met in their literature circles and did a great job!  Groups meet again on Monday.

Writing-We visited the library today for a lesson on Ben Franklin and also shared some of our persuasive letters so they can be sent out.

Social Studies-Today we watched a Time Warp Trio video showing Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery.  We learned about Sacajawea in the video and also spent some time researching Lewis and Clark on the internet.

Homework:
Math-WS 13.5, all problems

Social Studies-Chapter 4 test will be next Wednesday.  The packet is due that day as well.

Read and Write!

Have a great night!
