Here's what we did today:
Math-We talked about divisibility and learned for rules finding if a number is divisible by 2, 3, 5, 9, and/or 10. If you have a dice at home, here's a great game to play with your child to review these concepts:
One player rolls the dice 3 times in a row and records each number, creating a 3 digit number. Then find if the number is divisble by 2, 3, 5, 9 and/or 10. Here's an example: If I roll a 4, a 7, and a 2, my number is 472. It is divisible by 2 because it is even. It is not divisible by 3 or 9 because when I add 4, 7, and 2 I get 13 and 13 is not divisible by 3 or 9. It is also not divisible by 5 or10 because 472 does not end with a 0 or 5.
Word Study-Groups 1 and 2 prepared their words for the sort while Groups 3 and 4 met with me to get their new words.
Reading-We listed what we know about fiction and read a book called Thunder Cake to discuss what elements of fiction we noticed like setting, character and plot.
Writing-Students continued working on their drafts and we talked about what a good introduction paragraph would look like. Drafts are due Friday. They do not need to be revised or edited. We will focus on the closing paragraph tomorrow.
Social Studies-We finished up the Little House on the Prairie pioneer video and read a book together about a family's journey from Illinois to Sacramento, California. Tomorrow we will learn more about the specific routes the pioneers took to head west.
