Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing holiday!
Here's what we did today:
Math-We began . . . Long Division! I taught the students to remember "Does McDonald's Sell Cheeseburgers?" or "Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Compare, Bring Down". We are starting with problems such as 29/5 where there will be a remainder. If your child is having trouble with the homework tonight, don't worry, we will be working on this for awhile.
Reading-We began new Reading groups today. All Reading groups will meet every Monday and Thursday.
Word Study-I met with Groups 1 and 2 to give them their new words today. Group 1 is working on homophones with the long a sound and Group 2 is working on the long a sound in the accented syllable.
Writing-After grading the persuasive letters over break, I saw numerous editing mistakes so the students spent some time re-editing to prepare the letters to be sent out. We also discussed some different information you would find in a biography in preparation for our next writing assignment, a report on a famous person.
Social Studies-We began Chapter 4 and learned about some of the first French explorers in our area like Marquette and De La Salle. We also learned about the Northewest Passage and some of the first trading posts in Missouri.
Homework:
Math-Complete the 6 division problems on the grid paper.
Writing-Writer's Notebook and finish editing letter if you need to
Read-Read 100 minutes this week.
Have a great night!
