January 21st

Happy Friday!  Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned how to interpret the reminder when solving word problems that require division.  Should you drop the remainder, add one to the quotient or is the remainder your answer?  We discussed key words to look for when solving these types of problems, but common sense can usually provide the right answer for what to do with the remainder!

Word Study-We went over the grammar quiz from Wednesday.  Most students did excellent, but some are a little confused on subjects and predicates.

Reading-Students met in groups.  We also had some more practice with fact and opinion.

Writing-We continued working on our research papers.  There were a few students who did not have their star papers completed, although they were due today.  Most students have begun their rough draft.  We will continue drafting next week.

We also went to the Truman Spelling Bee this afternoon!  Congratulations to 5th grader Andrew for winning!

Homework:
Math-WS 14.6, all problems--I also gave students an extra study sheet and the practice test with instructions only to do these sheets if we are off for snow on Monday.  We will have the test Tuesday even if we are off Monday.  The worksheet (14.5) is optional, but the practice test is required.  If we are not off, they are to leave the sheets in their folder and we will do them on Monday at school.

Reading-Groups meet Monday.

Writing-Writer's Notebook.  Also, a few students need to complete their star papers.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

The TFK booklets with 7 addresses can still be handed in up till Tuesday!
