January 19th

Here's what we did today:
Math-We went over some long division problems involving zeros in the quotient.  Some students are having trouble remembering to put a zero in the quotient when one is needed, but we talked about thinking if the answer makes sense by estimating.  Forgetting a zero usually causes the answer to be very far from the real answer!

Word Study-Students took the Grammar Quiz.  I will return these tomorrow.

Reading-Students met in their reading groups and then shared out with the class a little about their group book.  Groups meet again on Friday.

Writing-We continued with our research today.  Many students are finishing up their sorted paragraphs and are working on the star paper.  They are doing a great job!

Social Studies-Mrs. Bushman's class joined us for a showing of Little House on the Prairie to coincide with our study of westward expansion.  We'll continue the video later this week.  It is also on PBS quite often!

Homework:
Math-WS 14.4-all problems (Students had time to begin in class.)

Reading-Groups meet Friday.

Writing-Research needs to be completed by Friday.  We will begin drafting on Monday.

Please remember to participate in the TFK activity.  Just fill in some addresses and you'll help Lindbergh get free TFK's for next year!
