November 5th

Happy Friday!  Here's what we did today:

Math-We began Chapter 9 by solving and writing expressions.  The students are now working to write their own word problem that other students can solve by writing an expression.

Word Study-Groups 1 and 2 met with me to sort their words according the principle for the list while Groups 3 and 4 prepared their words for the sort on Monday.

Reading-Students took an assessment on summaries and also met in their literature circles.  Groups will meet next on Thursday because Wednesday is our field trip to Powell Hall.

Writing-We continued publishing our narratives and working on personal choice pieces.

Social Studies-We looked at some population maps online including one of the world, the United States and Missouri and we learned how to use the key to read a population map.  We are really enjoying learning about everyone's background!

Homework:
Math-WS 9.1, all problems on the practice side

Social Studies-Students need to bring in an item from home that shares something about their past or their family's past.  We will use these to learn about our heritage and also to compare primary and secondary sources.  Please make sure to have your item on Monday.

*Smencils will be for sale for one last day on Monday for $1.50 each!

Have a great weekend!

    Mrs.Davis-
I learned thatI am mostly German, and a little bit Austrian. In 1850, five of my ancestors rode in five boats from Germany, stopped in New Orleans, Louisiana and sailed up the Mississippi river to Missouri. Unfortunatly, one boat got lost at sea =(. BYE!
