November 3rd

I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing four day weekend!  It's already Wednesday of this short week and we have a lot to accomplish.  Here's what we did today:

Math-We reviewed for the Chapter 8 test which is tomorrow.  The test focuses on basic multiplication facts, multiplication properties and also stresses WORD PROBLEMS.  They should be able to identify what operation to use to solve a word problem and solve it.

Word Study-I met with Groups 1 and 2 today to give them their word lists.  Group 1 is working on words with the -ing ending preceded by either VCe or VVC.  Group 2 is working on words with the comparative suffixes (er, est, ier, iest).

Reading-We re-read In My Backyard and pulled out the main ideas.  Tomorrow we will turn these ideas into a summary.  The students also met in their reading groups and will meet again Friday.

Writing-We continued publishing our personal narratives and working on our choice piece.

Social Studies-We began Chapter 2 by focusing on Missouri's diverse culture.  The students met in groups to research online about a cultural festival in Missouri.  We will share what we learned tomorrow.  Students were also given a packet containing information on Chapter 2 as well as the worksheets for the chapter and two extra credit options.  The worksheets and optional extra credit are both due the day of the test (Thursday, November 11th).

Homework:
Math-Study for the Chapter 8 test.  Extra worksheets were given out.  These are great practice, but do not need to be handed in.

Writing-Some students are choosing to type their narratives at home and save it on flash drive.  This is fine, but is not required.  They will also have time in school to publish this piece.

Remember to write in your Writer's Notebook this week!  It is already Wednesday!

Have a great night!

Blog Post
In Social Studies we discussed our ethnic backgrounds.  I thought it would be interesting for the students to post any information they have on their backgrounds and where their ancestors came from.  For example, my background is primarily German, with some Irish.

Have a great night!
