Here's what we did today:
Math-We reviewed for the Chapter 6 test which is tomorrow. There is a lot of vocabulary on the test and the kids wrote the important words at the top of their practice test. I noticed that a lot of them are still mixing up the meaning of the mean, median, and mode and getting confused about range, interval and scale. I cannot stress enough how important it is for them to study the meanings of the vocabular words tonight so that they can apply them on the test tomorrow.
Word Study-I met with groups 3 and 4 today while Groups 1 and 2 prepared their words for the sort. Group 3 is working on words with the suffixes of -y, -ly, and -ily and Group 4 is working on words with the suffixes -en, -ize, and -ify.
Reading-We began discussing summarizing today using the book Flight. The book is about Charles Lindbergh's journey across the Atlantic. Ask your child to summarize the book for you tonight!
Writing-Today we focused on telling a narrative about a time when we learned how to do something. We heard a great narrative from a 15 year old student about when he learned that you should try others they way you would want to be treated. He learned this when he heard an echo in the forest. Many students chose to incorporate a message into their narratives today.
Health-At the end of the day we watched a video on how important exercise is. There is a challenge for each student to be active for at least 15 minutes a day. They have a chart with them so that they can keep track of days they are active. We will be keeping track at school as well. We also discussed that if you are already active for 15 minutes a day, challenge yourself to do more or to eat healthier.
Homework:
Math-Study, study, study for the Chapter 6 test. You can skip over the stem and leaf plot lesson. It will be extra credit on the test if you'd like to attempt it.
Important Information:
-If you have not returned the conference form to school, please try to remember it tomorrow.
-A lot of notes went home today. There are a few that need to be returned to school concerning the Fall Festival. One is for the Buddy Lunch and the other is for the Pumpkin Run.
-Friday is a half day and is also PAJAMA DAY! Students can wear P.J.'s to raise money for the orphanage in Haiti. Please remember to bring $1 to participate.
Have a great night!
