October 5th

Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned that you take a survey when you want to find out information.  Each student then chose a survey question such as "Out of basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer, which is your favorite sport?".  They had some time to ask everyone to take their survey and filled in a tally table to record the responses.  We then turned the tallies into frequencies.  We also discussed cumulative frequency.  Chapter 5 tests were given back and students may correct any missed problems that were not extra credit (EC).  I was very pleased with the test results!

Word Study-Students had time to work on their contract in class.  Tomorrow they will do a buddy check to prepare for the test on Thursday.  Contracts are due Friday.

Reading-We referred back to the poem "Tell Me" and used RAP (Restate, Answer, Prove) to answer a couple questions about the poem.  I also met with two reading groups.

Writing-Today we continued with personal narratives and focused on choosing small incidents or events, rather than long personal stories.  The students had time to begin writing a narrative on a single event.

Time for Kids-Students not in Math Intervention or Resource read through a TFK article on animals' intelligence.  We learned that animals may be smarter than we think!

Homework:
Math-WS 6.1, all problems and correct test if needed

Word Study-contract and study

TFK-finish WS  (Math Intervention, Resource, and Leap students do not need to complete this)

Science-Don't forget to bring in two rocks!

Social Studies-I offered an extra credit packet to students wishing to bring up their first quarter Social Studies grade.  This is optional and needs to be completed by October 12th if they want it to bring up their grade.  They may use the book for help.

Have a great night!
