October 18th

Here's what we did today on Backwards Day!

Math-We learned how to read and create line graphs today.  An important thing to remember is that you use a line graph to show changes over time, whether it be minutes, days, weeks, or years.

Word Study-Groups 3 and 4 met with me to do their word sort and Groups 1 and 2 had time to work on their contracts.  The test for Groups 1-2 is Wednesday and for Groups 3-4 is Thursday.

Reading-We discussed separating supporting details from the main idea.  We learned that all supporting details refer right back to the main idea of a passage or chapter.  Groups also met in their new literature circles today.

Writing-After looking at some sample narratives from past fourth graders, students discussed what makes a personal narrative a powerful and meaningful piece of writing.  They then had time to finish writing their draft or start revising for sensory details.

Social Studies-We are back to Social Studies for the next month.  We began Chapter 8 which focuses on economics and learned some important vocabulary words like free-enterprise, profit, and supply and demand.

Homework:
Math-Finish WS's 7.2 and 7.3, all problems--Chapter 7 test is Friday

Writing-Finish re-writing your draft, skipping lines, if you haven't already

Tomorrow is Sports Day so feel free to wear a shirt for your favorite sport's team!
