Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned about pictographs and how important it is to look at the key before trying to read a pictograph. We also made our surveys from last week into bar graphs and chose an interval and scale for the graphs.
Word Study-I met with Groups 1 and 2 today and gave them their word lists. Group 1 is working on words that end with -ing. We are learning how to know when to double the final consonant as in 'getting' and when to just add -ing as in 'asking'. Group 2 is working on four prefixes, -un, -dis, -in, and -mis. We will learn what each prefix means and how they change the meaning of the base word.
Reading-We took the Reading Tungsten for October today. We have not entered the answers into the computer yet, but the students did a great job of taking their time and looking back in the text to find or prove their answer.
Writing-We heard another example of a personal narrative today about learning something the hard way. The students then did a quick write about a time when they learned something the hard way. They were able to share one of their narratives with a partner. By the end of this week, each student will have chosen a personal narrative to publish.
Tonight's homework:
Math-WS 6.6, all problems--We will review Chapter 6 tomorrow and the test will be Wednesday.
Reading-Don't forget to keep track of your reading minutes this week and post to the blog. We will be working on summaries and main idea and details so that would be a good topic to blog about.
Writing-Write in your notebook at least three times this week.
Science-Test is Thursday.
