I hope everyone had a nice weekend! Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned how to multiply 2 by 2 digit numbers where one factor is a multiple of 10. An example is 43x50 or 68x20. I also met with some students who have almost grasped the concept of the distributive property.
Reading-We had a fishbowl as one of the reading groups modeled their Literature Circle. Thank you to Lauren, Ben and Anna for modeling some great questioning and sharing of thoughts on their book! Most other groups met today as well. All groups will meet on Wednesday.
Word Study-Groups 3 and 4 met with me to do their word sort while Groups 1 and 2 worked on their contracts. Test for Groups 1 and 2 is Wednesday and for Groups 3 and 4 is Thursday. Contracts are due the day after the test.
Writing-We learned some ways to make our persuasive letter leads grab the reader's attention. We talked about asking a question, using an arresting sentence, an astonishing fact, dialogue, or setting the mood.
We also had a class Spelling Bee today to determine two class spellers to participate in a 4th grade spelling bee next Wednesday, the 15th. The 4th grade winners will go on to the school spelling bee in January. Our first class winner is Megan W. and we will hold a second bee this Wednesday to get a second class winner. Congratulations Megan!
Homework:
Math-WS 11.3, all problems
Reading-Groups meet Wednesday. Read 100 minutes.
Writing-Spend at least 10 minutes revising your letter. Don't forget to have three WN entries this week too.
**Book Orders were sent home today. Please return by Friday so I can make sure they are delivered before winter break. Have a good night!
