Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned about how to classify triangles based on the lengths of their sides and the types of angles. Students did very well classifying by the lengths of their sides, but need to be careful to check over their work when deciding how to classify using angles. They should use the corner of a piece of paper to check for right angles in the triangle.
Word Study-Groups 1-2 did a word search around the room while I met with Groups 3 and 4 for their sort.
Reading-Students met in their groups and discussed their summaries. They also decided on the ten most important words from their book so far and used those words to write a summary of the book so far.
Writing-We discussed different aspects of poetry and heard a poem called "Feeling Ill" where every line started with an -ing word and contained a phrase describing feeling ill. Students then did a quick write of phrases about feeling happy and then another one of their choice.
Homework:
Math-WS 18.2--all problems
Reading-Groups meet Monday--The assignment is to read the chapters, fill in the summary strip for each chapter, and complete the Rate the Reading sheet.
Writing-Writer's Notebook
Science-Quiz on Wednesday
**The EFG fundraiser starts this weekend. Make sure to check your child's folder for information.
**Also, there has been a lot of disruptive talking this week. Please talk with your child about talking only when it's appropriate so that we can get through the lessons and so that it does not disrupt others around them. Only two more weeks until spring break, but we have a lot of learning left to do!
Have a great weekend!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the nice weather! Here's what we did today:
Math-We learned how to find area using grid paper and also when given the lengths of the sides of an object. Sometimes we have to divide an odd shape into squares and rectangles to find the area.
Word Study-We talked about when to combine sentences and when to separate them, using phrases.
Writing-Students continued typing their biographies.
We returned to Science today and will be going there every day (except for Tuesday) until Spring Break.

Here's what we did today:
Math-We challenged ourselves with a perimeter activity where we had to end up with a shape with a certain perimeter and which used a certain number of squres. It was challenging, but I don't think anyone will forget what perimeter means! We also learned how to use formulas to find the perimeter of triangles, rectangles, and squares.
Reading-Students read their independent books and took notes on the characters. We had a great discussion about character!
Writing-We spent lots of time typing our biographies.
We also had Jump Rope for Heart and our Valentine's Day Party! Thanks to all the parents who helped out at these events! The kids had a great time!
Remember, we will exchange class valentines on Monday. The kids can bring in their own box or bag or decorate one on Monday (that I will be bringing in). Have a great weekend and make sure to get outside!

~The same goes for the Chapter 16 Math test. It will not be the middle of next week.
Please let me know if you have questions about anything and stay safe and warm!
