We had another great day in fourth grade today! We spent time getting into some subject material and I pre-assessed the students in Math and Spelling to get an idea of where they are at. The students also chose some books from our classroom library to enjoy at school or at home. Here are some important things to know:

Reading-At the bottom of each page of the planner there is a spot to record the current book the student is reading. I would like for them to write down what they read each week/night. They should also write down the number of minutes they read in the Reading box of the planner for each day. I will keep a running total on a chart in the classroom and we will see how much they read in 4th grade!

Writing-We talked about the Writer's Notebook and how it will be a very important place to write down any thoughts, ideas, stories, poems etc. The students should decorate the covers of their Writer's Notebook by MONDAY. We will share these in class. They may also begin writing in their notebook if they choose. I will collect these each month for an effort grade and am expecting at least 3 good entries per week on any topic they choose. The length is not as important as the quality of the ideas.

Math-Due tomorrow, is a Math interview. The instructions are on the sheet.
