Poetry

Here are some of our amazing poems that are in the works as we explore different types of poetry this month. We are getting used to "thinking like poets" at school and at home!

  1. Pie
    Delicious, Great
    Messy, Yummy, Good
    I will always like

  2. Mice
    Fast and furry,
    You like to scurry.
    In a hole,
    like a mole.
    Beware of traps,
    for they snap.
    They like cheese,
    they don't make me sneeze.
    In my house,
    you're a mouse.
    They like to nibble,
    on my dog's kibble.
    Fear of cats,
    some afraid of bats.
    Mice

  3. Climbing in Autumn

The leaves blow in the wind and past my face.
I climb up the cliff as my hair shimmers, brown and gold.
Rock after rock, I move on.
    The leaves rustle beneath me.
    Birds glide past me.
    But no matter what happens,
I'm determined to get to the top,
    and nothing can stop me.

  4. Lizard

    Lizard, lizard on the wall,
    do not fall.
    With your slimy hand
    how can you fall?
    But I remember,
    you are on a wall.

  5. What Being Free Means to Me

I can do anything I want to do,
Nobody can tell me to stop or go.
I can run as fast and as far as I can go,
    And nobody can stop me.
I can do anthing I want to do.
    ~Chloe

  6. Running fast, across the road,
    Super fast, not slow.
Tigers run as fast as me.
Uhoh, I ran into a tree.
    I better get a band-aid before I bleed.
    ~Jimmy

  7. There is an Elmo in my class.
He takes up a lot of mass.
    When you tickle his tummy,
    he sounds like a mummy.
    If you squeeze his nose,
he can laugh like a hose.
    Elmo has big eyes,
    sometimes he cries.
    His fur is red,
    and he sleeps in bed.
    Elmo is very young,
and he has a huge tongue.
He has a very big mouth,
and he lives in the South.
    He has a fish
    that can make a wish.
That's the Elmo in my class!
    ~Elma

  9. My dog and I went to the store.
On our way we found a board.
My dog is hairy and shaggy.
When my dog goes to the bathroom, be sure to grab a baggy.
It's as big as a cow.
What am I going to do with it now?
    We finally reached the store,
Oops, I dropped it on the floor.

  10. Flying colors upon the screen,
Getting brighter while resting at ease.
Hyper bolts as blue as the sky.
It's like the sun in the midnight breeze.
They go so fast and then they freeze.
    ~Blake

  11. Aligators can bite
    Beware the alligator.
    Careful, it will bite you.
    Don't get near it.
Run away, it is chasing us!
    ~Samantha

  12. Dancing

    Dancing as I'm turning,
    as well as learning.
    Running through the house,
    Oops, I crushed a mouse.
    Dancing once again,
    With my friend Jenn.
    ~Jessie

  13. After School

    Why am I stuck here
    in this little room?
    Did I get in trouble?
    What did I do?
I guess I'll have to wait,
    for tomorrow's fate.
    ~Phillip

  14. Snail

    Snails are very slow,
I don't think they even grow!
Hard to hold in your hand,
Somtimes they dig through the sand.
    Slimy, oozy, grimy creatures,
Too bad they have unusual features.
    ~Alex

  15. Guinea Pigs
    Chubby, cute
    Squeaking, running, loving
    I had one called Hammy.

  16. Popcorn

    Popcorn goes "pop, pop"!
It's so good you'll never want to stop!

    When you ask your mother,
be sure to put on a lot of butter!

Grab a bowl and a drink,
it'll be done before you blink!

Now that you're ready to eat,
How about we share the treat?

  18. Snake
    Very scary
    Long and scaly
    Any color
    One another
    Have no ears
    So many fears
    Some live in dry places
    With creepy faces
    Have no fear,
    Snakeboy is here.
    ~Michael S.

  19. Spring

    It's spring now
    Soft ground
    Beautiful sounds,
    But not too loud.
    And there's lots of treats,
    for you to eat.
    The birds are chirping,
    with the worms, they're slurping.
    It's spring you hear,
    Time when's there born deer.
    It's a beautiful day.
    Is that what you say?
    It's spring.
    It's a fun time.
    Do you like my rhyme?
    ~Craig

  20. Traveling

    Traveling is so slow,
    Every place I go.
Day and night I travel far,
    It is scary,
    It is boring,
Just to see one simple thing.
Taking some road I don't know,
    Going through dark tunnels.
    Now we're going fast.
The road shall take me where it wants.
    Traveling is so slow.
    ~Nick W.
